Communist East Berlin

East Berlin was the capital of the East German state from 1949 until 1989. The communists wanted to build a “new Germany“ here. But the whole system collapsed when millions of people demonstrated for democracy in late 1989. Find out what the Cold War left behind in this part of Berlin. The tour (with public transport) includes:

> The impressive Soviet War Memorial in the Tiergarten district

> A remaining section of the Berlin Wall

> The “Marx-Engels-Forum“ for the founders of communism

> The “palaces for workers“ in the Karl-Marx-Allee

> The socialist utopia around the Alexanderplatz

... and many other interesting sites. A comprehensive look back at the Cold War!

Please bring along a valid public transport ticket.
